TRIZ (Russian acronym) or TIPS (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) is a recognized method for inventive problem solving in theory and practice. It involves the systematic resolution of (technical) contradictions in order to generate product or process innovations. The reversal of the method, called TRIZ Reverse, is also possible, as research at the Dresden University of Applied Sciences shows. Both variants are discussed in this article.
