Managing Manufacturing Assets with End-Users in Mind
In the field of management of manufacturing resources, there are a number of solutions to make it easier for the end user to work with equipment. Often the user does not gain an overview of the relevance of the structure of the assets in relation to the current process. So although a number of integration solutions exist, plants are structured according to manufacturing needs, leaving out the human factor. This paper examines the human factor as an integral part of the planning of manufacturing resources and proposes a management of plants that reflects the needs of the user, breaks down collaboration barriers and protects the user from technical details. Driven by ideas from model-driven architecture we propose a solution in form of an open software platform that addresses these problems. The platform offers low code technologies to provide domain-specific administration shells, which are a more user-focused representation of machines and processes within factories. To test the concepts proposed here, an experiment was conducted on the platform.
