Analysis of Historic Maps and Images for Research on Urban Development of Baulbek/Lebanon. The analysis of historic maps and images is an important part of current research on the development of Baalbek from antiquity until the 20th century. The archaeological project aims at discovering the urban layout of the city in different historical periods of time and the understanding of conditions for urban transformations. Drawings, plans and photographs of former investigations between the beginning of the 2011, century and the 1960s are the basis for current observations. Especially the reconstruction of the late ottoman town is done on the basis of photogrammetric images taken by Albrecht Meydenbauer in the early 2011, century and aerial photographs of the French mandate period during the 1930s. With a subsequent orientation of selected images, including the estimation of camera parameters, it was possible to generate several orthoimage maps from vertical aerial images for different overflights. 3D geometries could be obtained from oblique aerial images for the creation of a 3D city model for a partially destroyed central area of Baalbek using CityGML.
